Entry Visas, Flights to/within Australia, Drivers Licence

Do book your FLIGHTS early. Link to Sydney Airport

International Flights to Australia fill up quickly.

Early booking of Domestic Flights is also advised.

  1. Everyone entering Australia must have a Visa and of course, current Passport with 6 months validity at time of entry. Make your visa application well in advance of anticipated travel time.
  2. Check carefully with your travel agent to confirm all Australian visa requirements. Quarantine regulations, customs clearance and health issues are noted on the Department of Immigration website. Australia has strict quarantine regulations.
  3. Note: Status as a conference delegate, alone, does not guarantee the issuing of a visa.

VISA APPLICATION - IN PERSON

  1. For in-person applications, the location and address details for Australian Visa offices, worldwide, are listed here.
  2. Applications for a Visitor visa (600 - bottom of page) allow 4-6 weeks for this application. Some countries' applications are on-line, some are in person...

ON-LINE APPLICATIONS - and restrictions

Specified countries only may apply for some of the following options

  1. Visa Wizard http://www.immi.gov.au/Visas/Pages/Find-a-visa.aspx
  2. ETAs - electronic visas. Certain countries ONLY (specified on the web site) may apply for these; the cost is reduced, and the application time expedited!
  3. Applicants from European countries go to eVisitor (651)

Customs clearance/Quarantine
Plant/food quarantine is very strict in Australia. Most airports have Beagle Detector Dogs.
Rule of thumb: if you put it in your mouth, declare it!

Driving in Australia - we drive on the Left with a RH drive vehicle. Regulations vary - all options here. Driving permit information NSW-specific.

Hire cars - All the regular Hire Car companies operate in Australia. Check Sydney Airport website details.

If you require a letter to accompany your visa application, please send the following information. All personal details are treated in strictest confidence.

A letter will also be sent to the Immigration office here in Australia to expedite your visa application.

  • Name (as shown in passport)

  • Date of birth
  • Academic title (eg Professor, Dr...)

  • Passport number
  • Name and address of Department
    and Academic Institute
